How do you use your intuition to stay in your heart and out of your head?
In this post, I’m sharing the telltale signs that you’re living in your head (not your heart), and how to reconnect with your intuition, your heart space, and ultimately—yourself. So you can experience more ease, more flow, and a deeper connection to the present moment.
The Head vs. The Heart
Your heart is where your magic lives. It’s the part of you that connects, loves, laughs, creates, and shines. It’s your joy. It’s your power.
Let’s break it down. Your head is part of your intellect—it’s the part of you that organizes, navigates, and makes sense of the world. But it also gets overwhelmed. We live in a world that’s overflowing with information and noise, and it’s exhausting.
When your head is in charge for too long, it becomes:
- Overthinking
- Indecisive
- Critical (of yourself and others)
- Problem-focused
- Competitive or comparative (“me vs. you”)
The head loves being right—even if it costs you peace, relationships, or joy. It’ll convince you that being right is more important than being happy. But the truth is, the head is never satisfied. It always wants more.
And in today’s world—across politics, life, and the internet—it’s easy to fall into that headspace. When you’re there, you start asking, “How are we different?” instead of the heart’s question: “How are we the same?”
Your Heart is Home
The heart, on the other hand, is your essence. When you were born, your heart was wide open. Kids naturally live in their heart space. They’re joyful, curious, and receptive. They’re not judging everyone around them. They’re in the moment.
When you connect to your heart, you connect to your spirit. And your spirit? That’s your innate divinity. That’s your intuition. It’s what connects all of us. We’re not separate. We’re one.
This isn’t something new you have to build or create. It’s something you return to. It’s already inside you.
5 Ways to Get Out of Your Head and Back Into Your Heart
1. Notice When You’re in Your Head
Is your mind constantly chattering? Obsessed with right/wrong, good/bad, black/white thinking? Always thirsting for more info? That’s a clue. You’re not in the present—you’re in a story. A made-up one, at that.
The moment you notice that, you’ve already created space. That’s huge.
2. Breathe
Your breath is the doorway back to your spirit. When you’re anxious or overthinking, your breath becomes shallow and stuck in your shoulders or neck. You tense up without even realizing.
So take a deep breath in through your nose, all the way into your belly. Then sigh it out—ahhh. Let that sound come out. That clears what we call “the chimney”—your throat—and opens your heart space.
3. Name What You Love
Start saying out loud or writing down things you love:
- “I love socks.”
- “I love dancing.”
- “I love really good chocolate chip cookies.”
Notice how that changes your energy?
Even if you’re not feeling it, just naming things you love shifts your vibration and gets you listening again. And listening is how we access our intuition.
4. Move Your Body
One of the biggest reasons we get stuck in our heads is because we’re sedentary. We scroll, we sit, we stew. All that energy has nowhere to go—and it builds up. We get zapped by life, and it fries our systems.
Movement gets us back into our bodies. Try:
- Walking your dog
- Dancing to your favorite song
- A few yoga stretches
- Taking a hot bath
Whatever gets you grounded and back into the vessel where your spirit lives—your body.
5. Write it Out
If your mind is being especially loud or negative, dump it all out.
Journaling is a powerful release valve. Don’t focus on the problem—write about how you feel about the problem. Let it out for 20 minutes. Then stop.
If you do this daily, even for a few days, it clears the noise and gives your mind a chance to quiet down.
Are you someone who gets stuck in your head?
