Signs Your Throat Chakra is Blocked and How To Unblock It

Is your throat chakra blocked?

The throat chakra is our center of self-expression, of creativity, of the place of speaking our truth. And when our throat chakra is blocked, we end up feeling anxious, low self-esteem, overthinking, and fear of abandonment.

So today, I’m going to share with you some simple tools for determining whether your throat chakra is blocked and what you can do about it.

The throat chakra serves as your center of expression, enabling you to speak out and express yourself in the world.

For many of my clients, as well as the people I mentor and work with, this aspect often presents a significant challenge.

Often, whether they grew up in a family where they weren’t supported or speaking out was dangerous, whether it’s past life and karmic, whether this is just their lesson to learn.

When we talk about our throat chakra, and we notice that it’s blocked, the first thing to consider is, do you feel safe expressing yourself?

Do you feel safe speaking up?

Do you get stuck in anxiety?

Do you get stuck in caretaking other people’s problems?

What’s your relationship like with your boundaries?

Do you feel safe, period?

Many times, I can immediately sense when someone’s throat chakra is blocked. They tend to respond with “I’m fine” and “everything is good” even when they are not. This blocked energy manifests as tension in the jaw and throat because they are trying to suppress their true feelings as a strategy to feel safe. However, this strategy does not lead to true safety or the desired outcome.

I’ve been working with a client who I’ve been mentoring, and we’ve been focusing on her throat chakra. At the beginning, everything seemed fine, but I could sense the anxiety, overwhelm, and fear of speaking her truth. There was also a real fear of abandonment.

I remember she was telling me about a situation where she got into an Uber and the Uber driver accidentally scratched the car rim while driving. She mentioned that she immediately started apologizing and asking if there was anything she could do to help. I thought to myself, “That is not just a sign of having difficulty expressing oneself (a blocked throat chakra), but also a lack of trust in others.”

So, some simple questions to consider are: Do you feel safe speaking out? Do you feel safe speaking up for yourself? What is your relationship like with your voice? How comfortable are you with expressing your needs directly?

If you feel this way, here are some simple tools for you:

The very first thing is Mantra Meditation.

This is Chanting and it is really important. It is an ancient practice that helps to calm our vagus nerve, which runs parallel to our throat.

Chanting can also help unblock our throat chakra. Often, when our throat chakra is blocked, we may experience fear of using our voice and can go into fight or flight mode.

We can use mantra as a way to organize our thoughts, quiet our chattering mind, and give our ego something to focus on. By repeating a mantra over and over, we create space to connect with our spirit.

Mantra has a fascinating effect on a cellular level, similar to how sound organizes sand into patterns on a vibrating plate. You can find examples of this on YouTube by searching for ‘sand vibration plate.’ The effects of mantra meditation are equally amazing.”

Feel free to choose a self-love or self-expression mantra that resonates with you. I recommend reciting a mantra out loud every day. Not only will chanting get you in the practice of using your voice, but it will help to quiet your anxiety and help to unplug the chimney where we get stuck so often.

If we are aware of where we’re stuck, we can identify where we are holding our energy. Are you clenching your jaw? Are you holding tension in your shoulders? Are you bracing yourself against the world? These are all indications that you need to start releasing some of that pent-up energy.

Second is Affirmations.

Affirmations are wonderful because they help to train our subconscious mind to be supportive. It’s similar to placing an order at a drive-thru at McDonald’s – we state what we want and what we’re working on.

As we say these affirmations out loud, they start to register in our subconscious, and eventually become our new reality.

And some important affirmations that we can use are: “I am safe to express my truth; my voice is needed” and “I set clear and honest boundaries.”

These are some simple affirmations that you can use to help support and train your conscious mind to really be able to open up that throat chakra.

Thirdly, I find that the throat chakra often gets blocked when our ego is the one driving the bus.

The ego is often afraid. It worries about potential consequences when speaking up or speaking out. It pulls from past experiences and projects them into the future, imagining potential dangers.

It’s important to remember that our egos are limited, and that’s okay.

Instead of letting our ego guide difficult conversations, we can turn to our higher self and spirit.

For example, if you need to talk to your boss about getting a raise or speak with your best friend about how they’ve been hurting your feelings, take a moment beforehand to breathe and center yourself. Visualize turning the conversation over to your spirit, trusting that your higher self is leading the way. This can provide support and help you feel safe, knowing that you don’t have to handle everything on your own.

And finally, remember to jot down three or four key points that you wish to communicate directly.

I find this really important in learning to speak our truth, especially in our relationships with others. This is a good way that we can practice before getting into the game of getting it to the real-life experience.

For example, if you are speaking with your best friend and they have hurt your feelings or haven’t been there for you, be very clear in expressing yourself. You can say, “It hurts my feelings when you don’t text me back. I feel like you haven’t been there for me.”

When we can distill complex ideas into clear, straightforward statements, it helps us communicate directly and understand each other better. Instead of jumping to conclusions or offering solutions right away, it’s important to listen to the other person and engage in dialogue instead of going to the worst case scenario.

I hope you enjoyed using these tools to unlock and unblock your throat chakra. The most important thing is to talk out loud all the time. The more we talk (since we are resonant beings), the more we open up our throat chakra. We start to pay attention to the vibration and recognize that our voice is needed.

  1. Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it was super
long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote
and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well
am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything.
Do you have any points for inexperienced
blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
