We aren’t in control of many things at the moment. Asked to shelter in place in our homes, a constant bombardment of news and no solid timeline of when things will return to normal is rife with food for the mind that sends us into fight, flight or freeze. 

I want to share with you some tools that can help you find ground, calm anxiety and reconnect you to your Spirit. 

  • BE GENTLE WITH YOURSELF 

It can be easy to feel like we need to be hyper-productive and to use this time to accomplish. In a capitalist society, we associate worth with productivity. Remember that what is going on isn’t normal. It’s okay to lower the bar of expectations a touch. We’re all trying our best and that’s good enough. 

  • MAKE IT A PRIORITY TO USE YOUR SPIRITUAL TOOLKIT

We are built for this. All of the books we have read, tools we’ve acquired, meditations practiced, intentions set is training for this moment. Make feeding your Spirit a priority daily. This can be as simple as taking a few minutes to meditate, buying a bouquet of flowers when you grocery shop, setting a simple daily intention. Use your tools. Don’t forget to join us this Sunday for support. 

  • CONNECT TO YOUR BODY DAILY

 When we don’t move our bodies, we become an energetic landfill. This is when we get hijacked, overthink, get anxious, and cut ourselves off from our intuition. The more we move, the more we allow our Spirit to move us. Take a virtual dance class, go for a daily walk, stretch, create a playlist and dance. A solid resource I have loved is Ryan Huffington’s IG live dance class. It’s a joy. 

  • PRACTICE BOUNDARIES WITH THE NEWS

 We are not meant for this amount of information. Our nervous systems are not wired to be constantly bombarded. All healthy relationships need boundaries, this includes the news. Stay informed but be selective. Make the cardinal rule, no news on your phone/tablet/e-reader in bed upon waking or before going to sleep. 

  • MEDITATE

I’m sure you knew it was coming. Our minds can be a dog on a bone when it comes to navigating the world that we’re living in. We chase after our thoughts but meditation allows us to create a pause.  The more we can get in the habit of being the observer, the more we can get under the noise, and connect to our Spirit. 

  • CHECK-IN WITH YOUR FEELING BODY

Make it a habit to ask yourself, how do I feel today? Do a full-body scan. Check-in with where you’re feeling tightness or space. Notice if the emotions move, transform, or if they are stuck. If you feel like an emotion is stuck, root into another part of your body that feels solid. Feel into your feet, into your root chakra located at the base of your tailbone. Having a pulse on your feeling body is vital so you know what you need. The more in tune we are with our needs, the more we can act proactively instead of getting overwhelmed. 

  • WE ARE IN IT TOGETHER AND THINGS WILL GET BETTER

 This is a moment of solidarity. We are all in this together and having a collective but separate experience. Remind yourself that this too will pass.
